From almost unknown in Sweden last year it had become a big movement with a lot of big companies supporting by turning their lights off. Arla the biggest dairy company in Sweden made a major change in one of their milk cartons from white and green to black and grey and with the backside informing the consumer about Earth Hour event on Saturday.
Over a third of the municipals have agreed to participate by turning of the street lights. In Stockholm the facade lights will be turned off on the royal castle and Ericsson Globe Arena.
Comments
I spent Earth Hour in Las Vegas, Nevada. Specifically, I was on the Las Vegas strip. I was with a large group on the crosswalk at Tropicana Ave, between the Excalibur and the Tropicana Casinos. The whole event was very disappointing. Lights went off at each casino at different times. It was more than a five minute span watching the lights go off. Some of them only turned off some of their lights, such as the Tropicana. Also, looking both to the north and to the south, McDonald's signs shined brightly. One guy started a chant, "Boycott McDonald's! Boycott McDonald's!". It was so disappointing, I didn't wait around to watch the lights come back on.
